Google About to Spank the Hands of Those Not Having a Mobile Website

Is Your Website Mobile Friendly?  If Not You’re Going to Lose Customers!

Google makes hundreds of search algorithm changes each and every year with a few of them being MONSTER changes which have a significant impact on business websites.  Well Google has announced that beginning on April 21st of 2015, that the changes they will be making will have a “Significant Impact” on all websites.  Those which are mobile friendly will get a boost, those which are not….well they are going to see a significant fall of of traffic due to being Google Warns to be Mobile Friendlypenalized by Google for not following best practices.

In a recent blog post, Google stated that there will be an increased weight given to how mobile friendly a website is.  Per the post “This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”

For those business owners who have been putting off improving the mobile usability of their website, NOW IS THE TIME.  Many are speculating that this will have equal if not more impact as the Panda and Penguin updates in recent years.  By the way, those both had MAJOR impact to how well your website ranked based on a number of factors.

So starting April 21st, if your site isn’t mobile ready….you may be out of luck getting the volume of customers you are now.

Some tips to give you the best chance of maintaining or even increasing your Google page rank come April 21st:

  1. Google has a tool which can test the pages of your site.  You’ll want to test each page as Google will be taking each page into account when determining if your site is “Mobile Friendly” or not
  2. Make sure that your website has a mobile responsive design.  A website being mobile responsive means your visitors can easily navigate your website.
  3. Avoid common mistakes which can effect how Mobile Ready your website truly is.  Here is Google’s list of these common mistakes.
