Online Marketing –  The Top Marketing Tactic Working Today

We were reading a great article on NetworkSolutions.com regarding what Marketing Tactics are providing the highest return on investment these days.  While the statistics were drawn from polling more than 150 business to business companies (B2B), we think the trends they found weren’t just for B2B companies, but apply to business to customer (B2C) companies as well.  We weren’t surprised to see that Online Marketing was at the top of the list.

What the data showed from these polls was that the Marketing Tactics which were working best for B2B companies were (in the following order):

  • Online Marketing
  • Email Marketing
  • Trade Shows and Events
  • Public Relations
  • Advertising
  • Direct Mail
  • Telemarketing

The article mentioned that four of the top five marketing tactics which B2B companies are using online are centered on Website Development, Email Marketing, Social Media Marketing, and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).  B2B businesses are making the transition to Online Marketing, knowing that their customers are no longer looking to the phone books, newspapers, radio, or TV to find  goods and services.  They, like us, are going to where that information is plentiful, we’re all going online.

Based on these findings, businesses of all types need to focus their attention on Online Marketing if they haven’t already.   We’re finding more and more that those companies who are staying connected with their customers, are using Online Marketing (also called Internet Marketing)  Customers are looking for a more enriched experience, they want to see pictures or video of your goods or services, they want to get to know you and your staff, and they like to see bios of your employees.  All of these things help build a bond with past and future customers.  All of this helps them get to know, like, and trust you…then hopefully purchase from you.

Today, it isn’t enough to HAVE a website.  Your website needs visibility so your customers can find you.  As the day of this blog post there were over 955,327,541 active websites.  So your website is competing with over half a billion other websites for attention online.  Figuratively, your website is a needle in a stack of needles.  In order to get your business noticed, you need Online Marketing.  Your website has to be attractive to search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo in order to be found.  Search engines look for key items on your website to establish that you’re an authority within your business type.
